The Kellivale Estate Story
Kellivale Estate is a boutique winery located in the Geographe Wine region of South West Western Australia.
Nestled on the banks of the Capel River, Kellivale Estate produces a wonderful variety of Spanish and Italian wines, boasting the oldest Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo vines in the state.
When three generations from the McDermott family planted their first vines in 1998, the idea was to become a “distinctly different” winery, offering varieties of wines that were not so common in the Geographe region at the time.
This idea is now a proud reality for the McDermott’s, and “Kellivale Estate” (named after their first-born daughter Kelli) has been producing wines for nearly twenty years.
Their first vintage was a triumph!
A big bold Tempranillo was produced in 2002, followed soon after by the softer Italian varieties of Nebbiolo and Sangiovese. These three varieties are now considered to be Kellivale Estate’s flagship wines.
In recent years, Kellivale Estate has broadened its range with substantial plantings of Viognier, Grenache and Pinotage. In addition, more Spanish wines; Albarino, Malbec and Fer have found their way on to the vineyard.
In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the Rose has picked up gold, silver and bronze at the Geographe Wine Show, and Sydney and Melbourne International Wines shows. Our 2018 Nebbiolo Rose won BEST ROSE in SHOW at our local Geographe Wine Show. A very proud moment!
The McDermott family want to keep Kellivale Estate small and boutique. The winery is only big enough to process about 40 tons of fruit a year. Keeping operations small allows them to focus on producing higher guality wines in small batches.
The McDermott’s hope you love their wines as much as they do.
